In a letter sent out on Thursday, the local council outlined specific measures aimed at improving access to the city centre and addressing concerns about mobility in Luxembourg’s southern capital.

Starting 21 July, customers of local shops and restaurants will benefit from two hours of free parking in the Hôtel de Ville and Brill car parks. This will be introduced as part of a test phase, which is expected to be fully implemented by autumn.

In addition, adjustments will be made to the bike lane on Rue du Canal, where space will be widened to allow easier passage for delivery vans. A new delivery zone will be added, and a former delivery point reinstated.

To support short visits and quick shopping runs, the municipality will also extend the free short-term parking period from 20 to 30 minutes.

The changes come after weeks of pushback from local businesses, who argued that the new infrastructure made access to the centre more difficult for customers and suppliers alike.
