EnergyEnvironmental protection has to be easy and affordable, argues Claude Turmes

RTL Today
On Thursday morning, the Minister for Energy sat down for an interview at RTL Radio.

When asked about the recently published IPCC report, Minister Turmes stated that the results confirmed his personal analysis of the situation. The high frequency of natural disasters that the world is currently experiencing is further evidence that drastic changes need to be made, the politician noted.

At the moment, Luxembourg has the second best network for electric transportation after the Netherlands. Further extensions are already planned, but Minister Turmes still expressed concerns that it may soon be too late already.

He believes the best way of bringing about the needed change is to make it as easy as possible for people to switch their habits. The politician therefore emphasised that both private people and business need help to solve administrative challenges once they decided to change course. Benefits will be extended to include roof and window renovations.

When asked about energy production, the politician explained that Luxembourg will continue investing in wind, both nationally and internationally. For instance, both Denmark and Belgium plan on building offshore wind parks where energy production is to be centralised.

Minister Turmes concluded that the government has to find ways of making climate change cheaper and easier. He further noted that there is a shortage of electricians in the country, which is why the profession has to be made more popular again.
