A roadside check was carried out on Tuesday morning between 7.20am and 9.20am on the N56, which takes motorists from the A4 towards the central railway station in Luxembourg City. Police officers observed a large number of breaches of the highway code during morning rush hour on the outskirts of the capital.
No fewer than eleven drivers were caught red-handed using their mobile phones at the wheel. They each received a fine of €250 and lost four points on their driving licence.
In six other cases, the driver or adult passenger had not been wearing a seatbelt as required by the Highway Code. Four other drivers were unable to produce all the vehicle documents and one vehicle had not undergone a technical inspection.
One driver was fined for their reckless driving style and another for ignoring the “give way” sign.
