DP mayor Carole Hartmann told the Tageblatt newspaper that the project, which was due to launch this spring, will now be delayed by at least a year to 2025.

The historic city in eastern Luxembourg was set to house a new “City-Outlet” in the city centre, to revitalise the town after around 50 store premises were left empty. Last year, Hartmann and then-alderman Ben Scheuer told RTL that around 40 brands had expressed interest in occupying the empty outlets, which cover around 7,000 square metres.

Yves Wengler, who was Echternach mayor at the time, presented the project to a gathering of citizens in March 2023. But the mayor’s office now says they quickly realised the initial deadline would not be achievable following last year’s municipal elections.
