The 52-year-old general practitioner, who used to work in eastern Luxembourg, stands accused of sexual assault, with at least three adult patients having come forward with complaints. The alleged acts took place in the doctor’s Echternach offices during patients’ regular check-ups.
Diekirch authorities have now released the accused from pre-detention trial after four months in custody. This decision was based on Article 94 of the Criminal Procedure Code, determining there was no risk of escape, committing further offences, or tampering with evidence.
In 2021, the Diekirch Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an enquiry against the GP in reaction to two complaints. This year, an investigating judge ordered the doctor to be placed in pre-trial detention in Sanem, a decision based on yet another complaint.
According to information obtained by RTL, additional complaints by alleged victims have been filed since, although these have not been confirmed.
Despite his release under judicial supervision, the investigation remains ongoing, and the doctor is considered innocent until proven guilty. Since Minister of Health Martine Deprez has decided to suspend his license, the GP will not be able to see patients until the case has been resolved.
