One incident was particularly dangerous, but fortunately did not end in tragedy. A motorist was caught driving the wrong way through the Saint Esprit tunnel in Luxembourg City. His breathalyser test came back positive, resulting in his driving license being confiscated and an official report drawn up against him.

Unfortunately, he was not the only drunk driver at the start of the weekend. Earlier, another driver was stopped for speeding between Hollerich and Merl, which cost him his driver’s license on the spot.

In the early hours of Saturday, police officers carrying out a speed check in Pétange intercepted a vehicle speeding near the roadblock. After catching up with the car in question, the officers questioned the motorist, as she seemed to be ‘uncooperative and violent,’ as well as in a state of intoxication. Her license was revoked and the officers filed a complaint.

Various alcohol checks were conducted over the course of Friday night: In Frisange, 107 drivers were checked between 11 pm and 12.15 am. Three of those were positive, and one driver’s license was confiscated on the spot.

In Dudelange, 99 drivers were tested between 1.15 am and 3.15 am. Four test results came back positive. Again, a license was confiscated on the spot, in addition to fines.
