Police reported on Saturday that a serious traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Friday on the N2 route between Bous and Remich.
For reasons that are still under investigation, a motorist lost control of their vehicle, left the road, and crashed head-on into a tree. The impact was so severe that the car was propelled backwards from the tree.
Police and emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. A doctor who happened to be passing by also stopped to assist. The driver suffered severe head injuries and was unresponsive when emergency workers arrived. Rescue personnel freed the victim from the vehicle and transported them to hospital.
As of Saturday morning, the driver remains in a life-threatening condition.
