A motorist refused to be pulled over by police on Sunday morning, triggering a high-speed chase from the capital as far as Esch-sur-Alzette.

Officers attempted to stop the driver at around 7.20am in Luxembourg City. A high-speed chase ensued on the A4 motorway, ending with a collision near Esch-sur-Alzette as the fleeing car struck a police vehicle.

Emergency services reported five minor injuries caused by the crash, with a police officer suffering an injury when the errant driver ran over his foot.

The driver was eventually immobilised by police, while the injured parties were treated at the scene and taken to hospital for further checks.

The public prosecutor’s office ordered the man’s arrest and the getaway car, which transpired to be a stolen vehicle, was seized by police.

Reports suggest a shot was fired by a service weapon during the incident, which has triggered an investigation by the General Police Inspectorate (IGP).

Traffic was interrupted on the A4 between Lankelz and Monkeler. Disruption was still reported by 1.00pm on Sunday afternoon.
