Police in Schengen came across a car parked on the outskirts of Schengen towards Burmerange on Sunday night, with a woman standing outside the vehicle. When officers approached, she told them that the vehicle’s driver had acted violently towards her. As the officers attempted to speak to the driver, he drove off at speed, smashing into the police car and severely damaging it.

When the police finally caught up with the driver, it transpired he was heavily intoxicated. During his escape, he had also triggered an accident on the Route du Vin, resulting in a fine and a complaint.

Two further cases of drink driving were reported on Sunday. In the first, a driver attracted attention for his unsteady driving skills on the A4 motorway, resulting in police pulling the car over and subjecting the man to a breathalyser test. He had his licence confiscated following a positive result.

In Remerschen, police received reports of a drunken lorry driver at a petrol station, who drove into a petrol pump and then into a ditch shortly afterwards. A patrol stopped the driver after these incidents and found he was visibly intoxicated. A provisional driving ban was issued.
