Second CSV departureDr Philippe Wilmes leaves the party due to its "reactionary and populist" attitude

RTL Today
After the news on Monday that Betzdorf councillor Christopher Lilyblad has left the CSV, a further departure has been revealed on Tuesday.

Dr Philippe Wilmes, brother of CSV party president candidate Serge Wilmes, dated his departure letter 26 January — the day of the party’s presidential vote, in which Frank Engel beat Wilmes.

In his letter, Wilmes wrote that he is no longer able to identify with the party, which has taken up a “reactionary and populist attitude”. He described Engel’s statements as “ambiguous” and claimed Engel’s rhetoric was marked by an inappropriate aggressiveness.

Dr Wilmes, a member of the executive council of the association of doctors and dentists (AMMD), highlighted in his letter that the party would shortly no longer exist, as it refused to renew itself. As a consequence, he wrote, he felt he had no other choice but to leave the party.
