“No bei dir” is the slogan of the party, which translates to “Close to you”.
Incumbent Mayor Lydie Polfer explained that it is the goal of the DP to make Luxembourg City more livable, more attractive, and safer than it already is. Priorities are said to be urban development and construction of housing. The DP therefore proposes that the municipality buy up new apartments.
“Yes, Luxembourg City probably has to adapt a new model to manage these hundreds of apartments in the best possible way. We also want to actively influence the construction of housing. We want to invest at least €100 million per year into housing development. Housing for young people, but of course also for families, and we will mainly invest into rented flats”, said Mayor Polfer.
Alderman Patrick Goldschmidt, who is in charge of mobility in the capital, explained that individual commuters are responsible for 60% of traffic in the capital. He stated that the DP wants to ensure that everyone involved in traffic will be treated equally, which is why soft mobility needs to be expanded.
“We need safer cycling lanes that are clearly separated. That is what we are working on. In the next two years, we will have a safely separated cycling lane from the Luxexpo to the new stadium. ... We as the DP will also reinforce contact with neighbouring municipalities and their soft mobility connection”, argued Goldschmidt.
According to the alderman, plans are to improve the capital’s connection to Bridel, Walferdange, and Leudelange, among other towns.
