For Grand Duke Henri, his 70th birthday promises to be a particularly special one since it will be the last one he celebrates as Grand Duke. He was born on 16 April 1955 at Betzdorf castle as the eldest son of the then-Hereditary Grand Ducal Couple, Jean and Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg.
Born Henri Albert Gabriel Félix Marie Guillaume of Luxembourg, he has been Grand Duke of Luxembourg since 7 October 2000, thus bearing the full title of Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Duke of Nassau, Count of Sayn, Königstein, KatzeneInbogen and Diez, Burgrave of Hammerstein, Lord of Mahlberg, Wiesbaden, Idstein, Merenberg, Limburg, and Eppstein.
Grand Duke Henri will abdicate on 3 October this year, after which his son, Hereditary Prince and Lieutenant-Representative Guillaume, will take the oath and assume the succession as Grand Duke.
Prince Sébastien, youngest son of the Grand Ducal couple, shares his birthday with his father and turns 33 on Wednesday. Prince Sébastien, whose full name and title is Sébastien Henri Marie Guillaume, Prince of Luxembourg, Prince of Nassau and Bourbon-Parma, was born on 16 April 1992 at the Grand Duchesse Charlotte Maternity Hospital.
