General Thull believes that Ukrainians are not only fighting for themselves, but also for our peace and democracy. So far, Russians have not managed to achieve their goals, which currently puts both nations in a stalemate. General Thull thinks that both armies are currently regrouping to launch new counter offensives in spring.

Russians are at an advantage due to the greater manpower of their army. However, the Ukrainian fighting spirit is not to be underestimated, said General Thull. Thanks to support from the west, Ukrainians have been able to persevere thus far.

According to the Luxembourg Army Chief, it is critically important to continue supplying Ukraine with weapons. When asked about tanks being delivered to the invaded nation, General Thull explained that the Russians might have a greater arsenal, but that western equipment has a higher standard.

Presence of the Wagner mercenary group and its 40,000 soldiers in Ukraine is clearly raising the level of violence, said General Thull. He believes ending the war and starting negotiations remains the utmost priority, which can only be done once one party recognises the futility of the situation.

General Thull concluded the interview by stressing that the western alliance is an efficient shield against Russia and that it is unlikely that Putin will try to achieve anything beyond Ukraine.
