After 18 years of loyal service, some of the electric CFL carriages have been given a well-deserved makeover by the SNCF Voyageurs’ Saint-Pierre-des-Corps Industrial Technicentre in France.

According to the blog of the Luxembourg railway company, the fact that the chosen design is strongly reminiscent of the Coradia Stream HC, recently ordered from ALSTOM, is no coincidence but a deliberate choice on the part of CFL.
No less than 650 litres of paint were needed to paint a TER2N-ng unit. But before the trains could shine in their new design, the old paint had to be removed. The ten or so workers at the CFL industrial site needed time and above all 4000 sanding discs.
At the end of the preparatory work, i.e. even before a first coat of paint is applied, an average of 100 kg of filler were needed for the repairs made to the double-deck TER2N-ng with its three coaches.
Between 5 and 7 coats of paint are applied to the outer part of the rolling stock and then cured at 60 degrees cabin temperature. After 24 days of work, the result is definitely worth it.
