The Diekirch beer brand was founded on 26 June 1871 in the northern Luxembourg town. The story began with the founding of the Brasserie du Luxembourg brewery under the name “Brasserie par actions de Diekirch”. In 2000, the “Brasserie de Luxembourg” and “Les brasseries réunies de Luxembourg” merged to become the “Brasserie de Luxembourg Mousel-Diekirch” that we know today.

More than 20 million litres of beer are produced each year by the new brewery, which was inaugurated in 2019 after three years of construction, requiring an investment of 25 million euros.

For Mayor Claude Haagen, these 150 years not only represent the anniversary of a beer brand, but the anniversary of a tradition and a strong link between the brewery and its community.

Wim Gallet, director of the Brasserie de Luxembourg, said that the art of brewing is deeply rooted in the country. He suggested that beer is a product with which many people identify because of its longevity and Luxembourg roots.

Laurent Muls, the production manager, said he was pleased that Diekirch has become an emblematic and historic beer not only in the town where it is produced, but also in the rest of the country.

The visual redesign three years ago required an investment of €400,000. It continues today with the release of new crates of beer.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary, the inhabitants of Diekirch were all able to take part in a raffle with crates of beer to be won.
