Last week, several officers were arrested on charges of battery, assault as well as obstruction of justice following a procedure in which an intoxicated person was placed in a sobering-up cell.
Though initially three people from the same department were taken into custody, a fourth officer was added to the list over the course of the investigation. The event occurred on 20 May 2023.
According to new reports from newspaper Tageblatt, one of the arrested police officers is thought to be a basketball player on Luxembourg’s national team.
The club will continue providing its player with moral support, it said in a statement, as sport and profession will be kept separate. The club will respect the presumption of innocence until a verdict is reached.
For the time being, the player is allowed to continue his sport.
