AI language company DeepL has announced the general availability of Luxembourgish on DeepL Translator, included in an expansion of more than 80 additional languages.
In a Wednesday press release, DeepL said the update adds languages including Afrikaans, Icelandic, Javanese and Irish, bringing the platform’s total to more than 100 languages. The company also said the launch means DeepL Translator now supports all 24 official European Union languages, alongside nearly all of the world’s 20 most spoken languages.
The introduction of Luxembourgish (in Beta status for now) is being positioned as a boost for organisations in the Grand Duchy, with DeepL describing it as high-accuracy AI translation tailored to local needs. The company said it could help Luxembourgish businesses and institutions reduce friction in local communication and compete more effectively with firms operating in larger-language markets.
“Our latest expansion allows businesses to use language as strategic advantage, rather than a hurdle”, said Ed Crook, DeepL’s Vice President of Strategy and Operations. He added that the company aims to help Benelux firms communicate accurately across borders, from Luxembourg startups to Dutch exporters.
DeepL said the newly added languages reflect existing international business ties in the Benelux region, where companies are managing export-import activity and growing networks of partners. The firm also framed the expansion as part of its broader investment in product innovation, describing AI translation as a strategic tool for market growth and global reach while maintaining local relevance.
