Decathlon has announced plans to open its first store in northern Luxembourg at the end of September. The new branch will be located in the Massen Shopping Center in Weiswampach, a retail destination near the borders with Belgium and Germany.
The centre reportedly attracts up to five million visitors annually, drawing residents, cross-border commuters, and tourists alike. The region is particularly popular with hikers, cyclists, trail runners, and campers, making it a strategic choice for the sporting goods retailer.
The new store will take over the former premises of clothing retailer JBC, which can accommodate up to 14,000 visitors per day. With a sales area of 1,050 square metres, the Weiswampach branch will be larger than Decathlon's existing store at Hamilius in Luxembourg City (630 square metres), though it will still be smaller than the branch in Sterpenich, Belgium.
The Weiswampach store will open seven days a week, including Sundays. Decathlon aims to welcome its first customers at the new location as early as the end of September.
