Filbig will share the role with Max Molitor, who will continue for another year. Maurice Schwarz will also remain in his position as secretary-general.
The congress focused on the concerns of young people, with Molitor emphasising the need to take them seriously. He highlighted growing dissatisfaction among youth with politics, citing uncertainty about the future and a lack of engagement with issues that matter to them.
Amid discussions on political restructuring, the JSL stressed that any changes should not come at the expense of the welfare state or future infrastructure projects.
