Mayor Jeannot Fürpass (CSV) confirmed to RTL that the local branch of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) in Mondercange does not wish to form a coalition with the Democratic Party (DP) if Christine Schweich is elected as a member of the local council representing the DP.
The CSV firmly believes that Schweich’s mandate rightfully belongs to the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), considering she stood as the LSAP’s lead candidate in the municipal elections.

Mayor Fürpass has conveyed the CSV’s position to DP councillors Marc Schramer and Serge Gaspar. He stressed the “untenable” nature of the situation, given the voters’ choice.
Fürpass declared that “the CSV Mondercange stands for transparency, honesty, and credibility, and we want to maintain that credibility with the public. That’s the message to the DP, and the ball is now in their court.”
The CSV politician ruled out the possibility of a three-way coalition and stressed that if the DP does not accept its conditions, the CSV would not hesitate to reach out to the LSAP and start negotiations with them.
Meanwhile, the Mondercange DP team issued a press release on Monday evening stating that they would welcome Christine Schweich to their ranks.
For the past six years, the municipality has been governed by a CSV-DP coalition under the leadership of Jeannot Fürpass. However, the new coalition agreement was reached before the announcement of Schweich’s decision to join the DP.
