Hansen stated that Prime Minister Luc Frieden had offered him the position of Luxembourg’s next European commissioner during coalition negotiations, an offer he “gladly” accepted. However, Hansen noted that the final decision will rest with the voters.

The former MEP emphasised that the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) stands firmly behind the “Green Deal.” Hansen advocated for further developing the Green Deal to ensure practical implementation. He stressed the need for European industries to support this initiative.

Hansen argued that importing essential installations, such as photovoltaic plants or computer chips, from China or other Asian countries is counterproductive. He insisted that production should be localised within Europe to enhance the continent’s energy independence. Europe must develop this capacity within the next decade, Hansen asserted.

Regarding defence, Hansen highlighted the importance of providing Ukraine with adequate defence materials and criticised the slow delivery process.

Hansen also supports abolishing the EU principle of unanimity in foreign policy decisions but opposes its abolition for tax matters.
