Upon enquiry, the designated CSV Mayor Carole Petitnicolas-Weigel explained that the party’s base has shown clear support for coalition talks with the DP. She further argued that reaching an agreement is a pure technicality at this point in time.
The Luxembourg Socialist Workers Party (LSAP) and their incumbent Mayor Fränk Arndt received 6.9% of the vote and thereby lost one seat in Wiltz. This means that both the CSV and the LSAP now hold five seats on the local council. The DP were able to gain one seat to now hold three.
Since CSV alderman Patrick Comes was in favour of cooperating with the LSAP instead of the DP, he has decided to renounce his party affiliation and continue working as an independent. Alderman Albert Waaijnberg also criticised the decision to join forces with the DP, but he will continue to stay a member of the CSV.
Coalition negotiations are expected to start next week.
