Following municipal electionsCSV-DP coalition to head Diekirch for the next six years

RTL Today
After the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) and the Democratic Party (DP) each gained one additional seat in Sunday's municipal elections, they decided to join forces and end the twelve-year-long majority rule of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) in Diekirch.

The CSV holds five seats on the Diekirch council after Sunday’s vote, and the DP has two. The CSV’s Charel Weiler will take over as Mayor of Diekirch while the DP’s José Lopes Gonçalves has been appointed to first alderman. It remains to be seen who will be chosen as second alderman.

Although the LSAP remained the strongest party in the local election, they suffered a 10% drop in votes compared to 2017, which gave the CSV and the DP enough room to outmaneuver them. The socialists and outgoing Diekirch Mayor Claude Thill will now have to share the opposition bench alongside Fränk Thillen from the Greens.
