MP and first alderman Serge Wilmes is the lead candidate for the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), which is currently the junior partner in a coalition with the Democratic Party (DP). The Greens will try to take over control of the capital with their lead candidate and councillor François Benoy.

The latter explained that the Greens want to improve the quality of life in Luxembourg City. Benoy singled out the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) as the only potential coalition partner that the Greens would not accept.

Wilmes conveyed his intention of making the capital the best place to live in Luxembourg. He explained that investments in the Gare district are important to achieve this goal. In terms of potential coalitions, Wilmes was not willing to exclude any possibility.

The CSV politician further made the case that figures prove that crime is a real problem in the capital and that the municipality needs the means to counteract the problem. Wilmes therefore wants to set up a municipal police.

The Greens are not convinced by this idea. They rather want to reinforce the police and increase social investments, notably into decentralised institutions.
