
Between 27 February and 5 March 2023, the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 increased from 1,409 cases the previous week to 1,606 cases, an increase of 14%. There was one new death related to Covid-19. The deceased was 94 years old.
Half of those who tested positive had previously been infected. 16 patients are currently being treated for Covid-19 in Luxembourg’s hospitals, up from ten the previous week. For the time being, there are no Covid-19 patients in intensive care. The average age of inpatients is 71 years.
474,978 people are currently considered fully vaccinated, which corresponds to a vaccination rate of 79% of the eligible population (everyone over the age of five).
At the moment, the recombinant variant XBB.1.5 is the most common, representing 46.1% of all cases in Week 8 (35.5% in Week 7). The Omicron BQ.1 variant accounted for 22.6% of all cases in Week 8 (26.4% in Week 7).
From 27 February to 5 March, the number of influenza cases also increased from 304 to 318, an increase of 4.6% compared to the previous week. The influenza virus type B is currently predominant.
