This was announced by Shari Schenten, president of the programme committee for Luxembourgish in secondary education during a webinar on Radio 100,7 on Tuesday.

The programme will allow students to select Luxembourgish as their fourth language, instead of Italian or Spanish. The project will start at the Lycée Michel Rodange next year.

In addition to this, a weekly class of Luxembourgish will be introduced on 4e classique and general.

There is a big demand for study material beyond what's available, says Shari Schenten. This also affects students who don't speak Luxembourgish at home and enter the public school system. These children are not all concentrated at international schools, notes Simone Bleser, teacher for Luxembourgish at the international school in Differdange and Esch.

Many students in primary schools do not use Luxembourgish at home, either. Even among adults there is ever greater interest in the language.
