The number of Covid-19 cases rose again in the week from 5 to 11 December, according to the Ministry of Health's latest report.

26 people were hospitalised with Covid over the past week, up from 22 the previous week. Three of these patients were treated in intensive care.

1,440 people tested positive for the virus out of 8,595 tests over the last seven days, with 980 of these experiencing Covid as a reinfection. The previous week saw 1,214 cases and 784 reinfections. The R rate rose to 1.16 from 1.06.

The incidence rate rose to 223 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days, compared to 188 cases per 100,000 inhabitants the previous week. With reinfections included, the weekly incidence rate is 379 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Two further deaths were reported as a result of Covid, with the average age of 93.

1,350 doses of the vaccine were administered over the past week, with six people receiving their first dose. At present, some 475,000 people, or 79% of the population in Luxembourg are considered to be fully vaccinated against Covid.

The Victor Hugo Hall vaccine centre in Limpertsberg will be temporarily closed over the Christmas holidays, from 24 December until 2 January 2023. However, a pop-up vaccine centre will be available in Belval shopping centre on the first floor, opening from 10am to 4pm every Friday, with the exception of 30 December.
