Despite assurances that train services would resume on 8 August between Bettembourg and Luxembourg, after three weeks of engineering works, commuters were left waiting without updates upon arrival at Bettembourg station on Monday morning.
Passengers arriving early at the station were dismayed to find there were still no trains running on CFL line 60 - and to add insult to injury, no replacement bus services had been organised. Updates from the train company were lacking, although French train operator SNCF issued updates on Twitter confirming that the works had run over, resulting in a late reopening on the line.
French border workers and residents in south-west Luxembourg were therefore left waiting to reach the capital on Monday. According to several commuters at the scene, just one bus turned up in Bettembourg, where hundreds of people were awaiting transport.
Luxembourg trains were finally authorised to begin running at 8.30am, according to SNCF, which confirmed the reopening of line 60 in a Tweet sent at 9am.
