25% increase in reported STDsChlamydia infections on the rise in Luxembourg

RTL Today
Every day, one million people worldwide become infected with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), posing a huge public health concern.

In 2022, almost a quarter more STDs were detected in Luxembourg than the previous year.

The number increased by 23.7% from 1,755 in 2021 to 2,171 in 2022. According to the Ministry of Health, this is “mainly due to an increase in cases of chlamydia.”

Every year before summer, the Ministry of Health launches an information campaign to raise awareness among the population, especially young people, about the importance of protecting themselves from sexually transmitted infections. The slogan of this year’s campaign is “Protection is good for us.”

From 8 May, in addition to messages posted on social media, events will be organised to highlight the importance of testing and using condoms.
