Child support, which was removed from the index in 2016, will be reattached to it starting 1 January 2022. The Chamber's family commission took the respective decision this week. Recently, the three coalition parties repeatedly emphasised that the measure will only be implemented at the end of the legislature.
Both OGBL and LCGB welcome that the administration has finally taken active steps in the process, but criticise that their initial agreement from 2014 will not be completely fulfilled. The unions further lament that the deficit, which families suffered over the course of the past 14 years, will not be reimbursed. In that regard, OGBL therefore demands that the amount be raised by 7.7%. LCGB complements that position by elaborating that child support has to be increased from €256 to €285, paired with an indexation of all other benefits.
In 2019, CSV put forward a proposal for an automatic re-indexation of child support, and despite the administration's announcement, the conservative party will continue its efforts around the financial aid, MP Marc Spautz underlined. He further noted that his party will most likely support a corresponding draft law. The opposition party also believes that child support needs to be indexed retroactively to 2019. Furthermore, large families with more than two children should receive greater support in general instead of adding the same rate for each individual child.
