On Sunday, 17 May 2026, Luxembourg will once again host the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR), a unique charitable event that sees riders of classic, vintage, and neo-retro motorcycles don elegant attire and take to the streets for a good cause.

The event is part of a global movement, with thousands participating in over 900 cities across the world, all united in the aim of supporting prostate cancer research and men’s mental health initiatives through the Movember Foundation.

Origins and purpose

The DGR was founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2012 by Mark Hawwa. Inspired by a photo of a classic motorcyclist in a suit, Hawwa launched the event to combat the often negative stereotype of motorcyclists and to unite riders for a positive social cause. The ride quickly gained momentum, growing into a global fundraiser supporting men's health.

It is about community, solidarity, and raising awareness for issues that affect countless families every year. Every rider, every donation, and every conversation contributes to something meaningful

The Luxembourg edition has been running for over a decade, drawing participants from across the country and neighbouring regions, with the organisers emphasising that the event is about more than just riding motorcycles and dressing stylishly: "The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride creates conversations around men’s health that often do not happen openly enough", one local participant explained. "It’s about bringing people together and supporting fathers, brothers, friends, and colleagues."

What to expect in Luxembourg

This year, the Luxembourg ride will begin at Place de la Constitution (Gëlle Fra) in Luxembourg City. Riders and supporters are invited to gather from 12pm, with the official departure scheduled for around 2pm. The route is carefully planned to offer a scenic ride that adheres to the official DGR guidelines, prioritising safety and the event’s distinctive character.

The ride will finish at Rives de Clausen, where participants and visitors will find dedicated motorcycle parking, food trucks, drinks, coffee, and a festive atmosphere.

As of early May, nearly two hundred riders and passengers have registered for the Luxembourg ride, raising nearly €21,000 – which places the Luxembourgish branch as a whole in the top 20 donors so far. Fundraising continues until the end of the event, and all donations contribute to international research programs and support services focused on suicide prevention, mental well-being, and prostate cancer treatment.

Anyone wanting to join the ride or support the cause can register or donate via the official DGR website or the specific Luxembourg event page. Sponsors and partners who might be interested in participating are also invited to contact the organisers.

Beyond the fundraising, the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride aims to break the stigma around mental health issues affecting men. By bringing together a diverse community and encouraging open conversations, the event seeks to raise awareness and foster solidarity.
