OGBLChanges to indexation or pension system 'off limits', says trade union

The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) unveiled its list of demands for the upcoming autumn legislative elections during a press conference on Tuesday morning.

The OGBL is now distributing its list to all political parties, encouraging them to incorporate as many of the ideas as possible into their election programmes. “Plagiarism is explicitly welcome in this case,” OGBL President Nora Back said.

The list of grievances put forth by the OGBL covers a wide range of issues. It stresses the need for modernising labour laws and reforming the Collective Agreement Bill.

The trade union calls for a reduction in working hours nationwide through legislation, but does not specify a precise figure, as the implementation “should be negotiated within companies and through collective agreements.”

Another key demand of the OGBL is the establishment of a “fairer tax policy,” urging the next government to put an end to the current “unfair” tax practices.

The OGBL also insists that the wage indexation system must remain intact, without any manipulation, deferral, or caps. The trade union remains resolute on this matter.

In addition, the OGBL strongly opposes discussions regarding potential reforms to the Luxembourg pension system, arguing that it is still “very good” and regarded as “one of the best in the world.”

With reserves amounting to €24 billion, the OGBL laments that attacks against the pension system have already begun. However, the trade union firmly believes that there is currently no need for reforms that would negatively impact those insured.

“If necessary,” the OGBL pledges to defend the Luxembourg pension system in a similar manner to the French trade unions’ staunch defence of the French system.
