After 12 hours of debates, some led for the last time by Fernand Etgen himself, the Chamber said “Äddi” to the Democratic Party (DP) MP from the North constituency. During his ultimate appearance at the lectern, Etgen did not resist cracking a few jokes in his very last speech to the plenum. The former president of the Chamber had previously announced that he would retire from active political life at the age of 68.

In his homage to Fernand Etgen, the current president of the Chamber, Claude Wiseler, reflected on the long political career of the North MP, which started at the early age of 22 in the municipal administration of Feulen. Claude Wiseler described his predecessor and the current vice president of the Chamber as a dedicated politician who, during his 46-year-long career, always enjoyed people’s company and never took himself too seriously. He kept a strong bond with his home in the North.

Marc Hansen, who positioned himself in third place in the North constituency during the last Chamber elections, could not immediately secure a seat in the Chamber, but will now replace Fernand Etgen. The former DP minister will take his oath on 20th January 2026. Fernand Etgen was awarded a special honour for his role as president of the Chamber.
