The day is celebrated at the CGDIS centre in Cloche d'Or, the last of such celebrations, as next year the team of 33 people will move to a new location in Gasperich.
The numbers are impressive: one incoming call every two minutes, and an intervention once every seven minutes. Last year, this added up to 243,000 callls treated by 112, and 60,000 deployments.
As two-thirds of all incoming calls do not require deployment, the CGDIS also reminds the public to only call in the case of an emergency, such as an accident, injury, fire, flooding or poisoning. Otherwise the line is blocked unnecessarily.
During the pandemic, CGDIS staff are also responsible for patient transfers between hospitals and keeping an eye on ICU capacities in various hospitals.
