Jeannot Waringo, president of CFL’s administrative board, concluded that it was an “excellent” year for the railway company. After the Covid-19 pandemic lead to a 40% drop in passengers in 2020, CFL recorded an increase of close to 15% last year.
Although 17 million passengers is still below pre-pandemic levels, CFL expects to be back on trajectory by the end of 2022, explained secretary general Marc Wengler.
CFL officials also expressed satisfaction over the company’s timeliness in 2021, with 92% of scheduled connections arriving on time.
For a first time in history, CFL recorded a turnover of more than €1 billion, which was mostly due to government contracts. Furthermore, the railway company recruited 400 new employees, which means CFL now employs close to 5,000 people.
