In a press release issued on Monday, SES disclosed the unexpected departure of Collar, who served as CEO for five years and had been with the company for two decades. According to the press release, Collar had expressed his desire to pursue “other professional and personal endeavours.”
The chairman of SES’s board of directors, Franck Esser, took the opportunity to highlight Collar’s accomplishments during his tenure, particularly in successfully implementing new satellite capacities within the organisation.
Ruy Pinto, currently serving as CTO, will step in as the interim CEO until a suitable successor is identified for the position vacated by Collar. Before joining SES, Pinto worked for Inmarsat.
This resignation comes at a time of transition for SES, as the company engages in discussions regarding a potential merger with competitor Intelsat. According to its own figures, SES’ satellite fleet and multimedia services reach approximately 370 million households worldwide.
