The DP is sending the most candidates into the municipal elections, but is the fact that PM Xavier Bettel is travelling the country to help them campaign a sign that confidence is low?

“First of all we are very proud to have this many candidates on our lists ... and this is also a great opportunity for our PM to show himself and the work of the administration, especially since we’ll have national elections after the municipal ones.”

With DP policies being so closely aligned with those of other parties, how to you hope to set yourselves apart?

“We believe that people’s lives have changed in the last years, the pandemic and climate change are playing big roles, people have worked more from home ... In our eyes it is important that municipal politics stay close to people, that we promote cohabitation between young and old, that we carry out the energy transition with people. ... We need modern infrastructure, particularly in terms of housing, we need to cooperate with the private sector to find solutions to this serious problem.”

What is the DP’s position on a ‘municipal police’ and on private security firms?

“In Luxembourg City, crime figures are going up and I think we have to react, not only with repressive measures, but also with prevention, social measures, traffic safety, lighting ... I think it is an issue that is very important to people so we will take it seriously.”

How does the DP plan on making use of its majority in Strassen?

“We have a very strong team in Strassen ... and I am convinced that we have the right people to take responsibility. Our lead candidates are ready!”

You are running for office in Echternach, what changes do you plan on implementing if elected?

“Important to me is dialogue with residents and businesses. Echternach made some negative headlines in recent years for various different reasons. Important to me is also the town centre, the market square, the heart of Echternach. Since I have been part of the municipal council, I made sure that we do not forget about people with limited mobility and the elderly.”
