With 55 members and close to 8,000 pitches, Camprilux unites most of Luxembourg's camping sites. In total, the Grand Duchy counts 75 camping sites and 10,100 pitches.
While some were able to operate again mere days after the July floods, other camping sites remain closed to this day, Gedink explained during her interview on Monday morning. Assessing damages is difficult at this point, and most sites will have to await the report from an expert.
Gedink also talked about a weather warning system, which Camprilux launched by itself to help different sites prepare ahead of rising water levels. At the moment, the text-message-system works for the Sûre region, but not yet near the Our. Camprilux hopes to expand the system and also include data from Belgium, given that both rivers originate in our neighbouring country.
Though 2021 has not been blessed with great weather, camping sites still welcome numerous tourists, Gedink further conveyed. At the same time, officials noticed that many people stay for shorter periods, which they think is due to the weather.
Naturally, the ongoing pandemic is also still affecting the country's camping sites. More people from Luxembourg are rediscovering the option and decide to spend their holidays in the Grand Duchy, Gedink stated. This may also help explain the growing popularity of glamorous camping "pods", which offer more comfort to guests than regular tents.
Since their introduction last year, between 10,000 and 11,000 government hospitality vouchers have been used on Luxembourgish camping sites.
