In a statement sent to the press, Belval Plaza said a water pipe on the roof of the complex had burst. The incident occurred during the night from Sunday to Monday and was triggered by a technical problem.
Technical teams intervened immediately to protect the site and its electrical installations. Following an inspection, the shopping centre was able to open as normal on Monday.
A visit to the site on Tuesday showed that traces of the incident remain visible throughout the mall. Some ceilings have been stained brown by water damage, while several escalators and lifts are still out of service. Barriers have been put in place to restrict access to affected areas.
Cleaning crews were working throughout the centre, including on windows and lifts.
Most stores remain open, although two businesses are currently closed: Yogurtlandia on the ground floor, and the indoor children's play centre Hello Kids on the top floor.
Access from the underground car park has also been affected. Visitors can no longer utilise the usual escalators and lifts to reach the shopping centre and must instead follow green signs directing them to a large service lift normally reserved for suppliers.
Belval Plaza said the centre remains open during normal business hours and apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused.
