On WednesdayBurglaries and break-ins galore over last 24 hours

Police reported a number of burglaries and break-in attempts on 28 December.

Among the targeted residences were flats on rue Jean-Pierre Huberty, rue de Mühlenbach, rue Goethe and Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Luxembourg City. In each instance, the burglars attempted to gain access to the buildings via the basement.

In Bettembourg, thieves broke a terrace window to gain access to a house on rue du Château, stealing valuable items from the property.

In Limpertsberg, burglars managed to gain entry to a third-floor apartment on Avenue de la Faïencerie between 1.20pm and 4.40pm, using the front door to steal valuables.

Burglars also attempted to break into office premises on rue Pierre Notting overnight from 27 to 28 December, but were unsuccessful in their attempt.

Other thieves were equally unsuccessful when attempting to break into a bookshop on Rue André Duchscher overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

Police also received reports of break-ins at residences in Bereldange and Beggen, a café in Pétange and a school in ParcHosingen.

One burglar caught by police

One burglar was arrested after breaking into a building on Rue Demy Schlechter, Bonnevoie. Two residents heard noises in the basement and were able to take the burglar by surprise, chasing after him and holding him down until the police arrived. The thief had stolen several bottles of alcohol.
