Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira used his Friday visit to the Grand Duchy to announce that Brazil intends to open an embassy in Luxembourg, should the current government be returned to power.

The Brazilian foreign minister visited Luxembourg on Friday with the intended purpose of further strengthening bilateral ties, according to the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira announced to the Grand Duchy that should the current Brazilian government be re-elected, it would look to open an embassy in the country. More than 33,000 people with Luxembourgish nationality live in Brazil.

Luxembourg, for its part, plans to open a consulate in São Paulo in addition to its existing embassy in Brasília.
