After 50 similar issues on the night from Friday to Saturday, the police reported 60 interventions last night. Alcohol was the most common reason as to why things escalated. However, a few incidents were already cleared up when the police arrived.
In Grevenmacher, at a wine event, a group of people had started an argument in the early morning hours. First there were verbal assaults, before it escalated to physical violence. One man had even thrown a bottle on another man’s head, who was then brought to the hospital with his injury. The other participant had to be located by the police. He had also injured himself in the fight and consequently went to the emergency room.
In Howald, a drunk man was reported to the police because he assaulted pedestrians and vandalised the park. A police patrol found the man in the park and they had to immobilise him because of his uncooperative behaviour. Since he posed a threat to himself and others, he was arrested. On top of that, he received a fee for insulting police employees.
In the city in Rue du Fort Neipperg a man was robbed by three other men who had tricked him into thinking they were only dancing with him. Their trick concealed how they stole the victims’s phone.
The police reported that watches and handbags were stolen from a single-family home on Saturday afternoon in Strassen. In Vianden another robbery occurred, the thieves broke in during the night leading up to Sunday, and stole pieces of jewellery, among other items, before they ran away.
In both cases forensics teams were dispatched to the scene to investigate.
