InterActions, Luxembourg Red Cross, and Caritas joined efforts with the Ministry of Family Affairs to bring the project to life.
The Red Cross manages the day shelter while Caritas is in charge of the night shelter, which operates between the hours of 9pm and 9am.
Due to the early onset of winter, the initiative kicked off a week earlier than in previous years. Usually open from 1 December to 31 March, social workers opened the shelter in the last week of November.
On average, 100 to 120 rough sleepers spend the night at Findel. 90% of the people who use the shelter are male, 6% of whom are Luxembourgish and the other 64% are European.
A new building will open its doors soon, situated in close proximity to the current shelter, as this winter marks the last one that the shelter will be based at its current premises.
The hope for the new shelter is that it will be operational throughout the year.
