Bus connections to Luxembourg should be better aligned with the existing German network. This would benefit all cross-border workers in the region, says county commissioner Günther Schartz in a letter to the transport minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Volker Wissing. At his suggestion, the minister has contacted his counterpart François Bausch in Luxembourg.

A number of German towns such as Nittel, Konz or Saarburg have direct connections to Luxembourg via the national network RGTR. Other regions in the district are served by the German VRT buses going to Luxembourg.

But the major reorganisation of the RGTR network until 2022 is being criticised by German officials, who say they were not consulted in the process. Both Günther Schartz and Volker Wissing are hoping for a response from the Grand-Duchy so there can be better coordination to make bus and rail routes more attractive for cross-border workers.
