Restoration work on holdBeaufort Castle reopens for tourist season

RTL Today
Renovation work at Beaufort Castle has been suspended to allow it to accommodate tourists over the summer.

Heavy rainfall in July 2021 impacted the grounds of the castle, causing part of the outer wall to collapse.

Over the past year, the damage to the medieval site has been assessed, while the remains of the wall have been stabilised to prevent further collapse, in restoration work estimated to have cost around 1.5 million euros.

Minister of Culture Sam Tanson wrote in a parliamentary response that she was aware of the urgency of the construction site, which is expected to last another eight months. The former CSV Minister of Culture, Octavie Modert, had submitted a parliamentary query on the progress of the work at the castle which she described as a “cultural and historical jewel”.
