Luxembourg's bathing areas saw exceptional attendance on Saturday, with popular destinations such as the ponds in Remerschen and the shores of the Upper Sûre lake attracting large numbers of visitors seeking relief from the heat.

By shortly before 3pm, the municipality of Esch-sur-Sûre reported to RTL that the beaches at Lultzhausen, Insenborn, and Burfelt had reached full capacity. Mayor Arlette Klein urged the public to avoid these sites for the time being, citing safety reasons and the need to prevent overcrowding.

A similar situation unfolded at Remerschen, one of the country's official bathing locations, where large crowds filled the area.

Saturday marked the peak of the heatwave in Luxembourg, with temperatures prompting an orange alert across the country. Temperatures are expected to fall back to around 34°C on Sunday, but emergency services remain on high alert.

Illustrating the extraordinary impact of the heatwave, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) carried out 369 interventions on Friday – an increase of 77% compared to normal levels.
