Besides requesting voting rights for all people residing in the Grand Duchy, disagreement was expressed towards the idea of lowering the voting age to 16 years.

On Monday morning, Luxembourg’s Association for Support of Immigrant Workers (ASTI) presented a new survey, carried out by ILRES, to the press. The latter has demonstrated that opinions have changed since the referendum in 2015.

According to the recent survey, 58% of the Luxembourg electorate would be in favour of allowing non-Luxembourgers to participate in parliamentary elections.

ASTI is thus addressing political leaders with two concrete suggestions. They call for the instating of electoral rights for all residents, no matter their nationality; the new voters only need to have lived in Luxembourg for a set amount of time. Moreover, they suggest the creation of a public chamber consisting of citizens which could exchange ideas with the politicians within the Chamber of Deputies.
