After priority was first awarded to the clearing and securing of streets and private homes, local officials can now look towards public buildings and sport infrastructure for damage assessment. A number of clubs and schools will not be able to return to their former training grounds for the foreseeable future.
The tennis courts in Echternach were completely under water. Officials currently estimate that they will not be functional again before Spring 2022. The building of the old indoor swimming pool suffered so many damages that it is unlikely to be repaired at all. Fortunately, there were already plans to entirely rebuild the infrastructure in two years time.
Nevertheless, it will most likely take another four years until a swimming pool can be used again by the pupils of Echternach, which will also affect those going to school in neighbouring Rosport/Mompach. Similarly, pupils from Bour will have to find a new location for physical education, given that the floor of their local gym was lifted by the water, and the electric network destroyed by the floods.
Members of football club Daring Echternach will also struggle to return to their former training grounds. Pitch, changing rooms, and the bar have all been damaged by the floods. Similarly, FC Victoria Rosport will have to find a new pitch for the foreseeable future.
