A motorist in Bonnevoie caught the eye of a police patrol shortly after 3pm on Thursday after he failed to observe the priority to the right rule. Police attempted to stop the vehicle and check the driver, but he fled after officers observed the smell of cannabis emanating from the car. A police chase ensued from Rue des Ardennes to Rue August Lumière, where the errant motorist collided with a second police vehicle.
The incident did not end here, as the man attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, officers were able to restrain him not far from the site of the collision. Police confiscated 230 grams of marijuana, 27 grams of heroin and hashish from the vehicle.
They also discovered the man was in possession of a signal jammer, a gas pistol and pepper spray, as well as a considerable amount of cash. During the check of the vehicle, the car turned out to have been stolen in France.
The prosecutor's office ordered the man's arrest. The drugs, weapons, cash and the car were all seized by police. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Elsewhere, a break-in was reported on Avenue Victor Hugo in the capital around 5pm. The burglar gained entrance to the building's cellar, but was spotted by residents, who prevented the man's escape. Police found the man in possession of stolen items and arrested him on the prosecutor's orders.
At around 5.15pm, a motorist was stopped in Differdange after driving through a red light. He was found to be over the legal drinking limit and had his licence confiscated.
Finally, the CGDIS reported an accident at 4.30am on Friday morning on the A13 between Dudelange and Kayl. A driver had lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over numerous times as a result. One person was injured in the crash.
