In her enquiry, Kemp-Arendt wanted to know whether there were detailed records of the amount of waste produced by cigarette buds. Minister Dieschbourg explained that no such measurements were documented and that the anti-smoking laws were only designed to discourage the consumption of tobacco products.

Her response further conveyed that in 2020, twelve verbal notices were given for infringements of the laws in question. Eight monetary fines were awarded over the same period of time to people who smoked in locations and/or spaces where it is prohibited.
